League 1 round up

There were three games in League 1 this weekend I'll have a quick look at them below.

Rochdale v Midlands Hurricanes

I had tipped Rochdale for a win here but fair play to Mark Dunning and his Midlands side who took home a 10-22 victory. It was 4-8 at half time in a tight affair but Midlands were able to come out on top to take them up to second. This was Midlands first ever win at Rochdale in a season where they are kicking on, it would be a great season for them to make the play-offs. For Rochdale I'm sure they'll not be panicking, although they sit in seventh, they're only three points off the top spot and have a game in hand.

Keighley v Workington

I'll start with the positives on this one, it was a great result for Workington who came out 6-46 winners at Cougar Park, that win propels them to the top of League 1. Town are possibly doing better than expected at this stage of the season, but like I said in my preview I was impressed by them last week.

On the other hand, I just can't work out what's going wrong at Keighley and I'm sure I'm not the only one. On paper they have a decent squad and should be up challenging for the play-offs. Instead they find themselves without a win in the league this season. Every week I say they have to win at some point and every week they don't.

Whitehaven v Goole

Across in Cumbria Whitehaven took a 42-24 victory, although Goole were in this trailing 18-12 at half time. I thought Whitehaven would take this one and again given Goole are newly formed this season I'm sure they'll not be panicking. This season for them has arguably already been a success, picking up two wins including away at Keighley. They'll learn a lot from this season and use it as a springboard for next season.

For Whitehaven they sit on nine points in fifth but only two points off the top but they're one of four teams to play eight games. Similar to around seven teams in the league they'll be looking to make sure they're in it at the end of the season and time their run to make the play-offs.

Next up

There's one fixture next weekend with Newcastle Thunder travelling to a North Wales outfit who will be looking to go back to the top of League 1.

This league is going to be really tight, if you're near a League 1 club I'd encourage you to go and take in a game.
