My day out at Trent Bridge, England v Zimbabwe day 2.

In my opinion, test cricket is the best format. It's called a test match for a reason!

Friday saw my dad and I travel down to Trent Bridge for day two of England v Zimbabwe. We got to Nottingham and parked up near the ground and made the short walk.

We got into the ground got some food, topped up my water and unsuccessfully applied suncream. Then to our seats, now I've been to Trent Bridge once but this time we were at the top of The Radcliffe Road End on the very back row. The views from there across the city at the back with how close The City ground is, but also across Nottinghamshire into the countryside. I settled myself in for a day of test cricket.

The cricket

I had in my head that England would go hard in the first hour then look to declared and so it proved. Pope went there was some entertaining batting from Brook and Stokes and Brook went. When Brook went that was it the declare flare came out. Zimbabwe bowled some nice stuff but also some loose stuff.

When Zimbabwe came out to bat i was fearing the worst for them but to their credit they did fight mainly through twenty one year old Brian Bennett who fought really hard for his country. The highlight of the day for me was his century, the crowd really took to Zimbabwe. At times I thought England looked a bit lost with the ball but it was good to see Ben Stokes being creative with his field to try and create opportunities.

Bowling wise until Stokes came on I think the inexperience of the attack showed but Stokes was excellent making the ball do things that others couldn't get out of it. At times I thought Josh Tongue looked the most dangerous of the rest of the attack.

To their credit, Zimbabwe didn't just fold they fought and had England thinking and searching for a wicket.

Off the pitch

The Zimbabwe fans were excellent really bringing some atmosphere to what was a fairly quiet Trent Bridge. For me I want to see them develop and the more they play the more they can bring to the test arena.

I thoroughly enjoyed being at Trent Bridge, there's something nice about sitting out in the sun watching a days play. I'm definitely going to be back to Trent Bridge and I'm excited by the redevelopment of the old pavilion side of the ground.

The ground itself had a good atmosphere with some live music and next time I'll look to stay over in Nottingham and take in more of the city as we drove back straight after. It was a long day but well worth it.

Next up

England have a white ball series against West Indies before the big one a test series against India. I think the bowling attack might need to be looked at, Woakes will probably come back in and I'd like to see a place for Sam Curran in the team, he's an x factor cricketer who can thrive in this England team.

I know there's been a lot of talk about Jacob Bethell coming in but for me you can't drop anyone at the moment. The players that are in should get a shot at India and Bethell has chosen to be in the IPL so may have to be patient with his time.

I'll be at Durham for the West Indies T20 game and on the Sunday of the Headingley test against India which I'm very much looking forward to!
